On 4 August 1961, in the Cathedral of St. Sophia, a concert was held that we now regard as the birth of Ohrid Summer. An opera singer with piano accompaniment opened the evening before an audience that filled the church.
From that concert grew a festival which is today a member of the European Festivals Association and which every summer turns Ohrid into a stage.
The festival archive keeps programmes, posters and photographs from the first editions — some will be shown at 'The Festival on Film' evening in December.
